R. John Wright Collection. Complete previously unknown preserve of R. John Wright dolls, privately held by Susan and John Wright. 

From the beginning, R. John and Susan Wright had understood the importance of the preservation of the archives of their illustrious American doll firm, R. John Wright. To retain examples of their work, mostly featuring the #1 or prototype dolls, but also including models of dolls never produced, became cardinal tasks for them for fifty years. Too, their archives preserved important documentation papers, original sketches, swatches, notes and correspondence. It is this important preservation collection that is presented at the auction. Treasures range from “First Doll” and early journal described above to models Ida and Rosie that were never produced. The complete set of fourteen Palmer Cox Brownies, each #1 of its production, are presented as a single collection, truly a one-of-a-kind presentation while the same is true of the Wizard of Oz collection. A one-of-a-kind cherry cased presentation of Christopher Robin and all the animals is extraordinary, as is the #1 Valentino doll of which only ten will be produced. There are several hundred dolls, mostly #1 or prototype, some presented singly and others as a series in one lot. 8.5" x 11". Softbound.
